WEEK 3 HW

This week's HW is in preparation for your first significant practical piece of work.

Part 1

You need to research the following:

  • Match on action editing
  • 180 degree rule
and then explain them on your blog in your own words using images (these may be found from the web).

Part 2

Research the format of screenplays using the following links:

Drew's Script-o-rama
50 Kisses Screenplays

evidence of research is shown by selecting a short extract, copying it and posting by embedding from SCRIBD and then using the same format for your own work. 50 Kisses Screenplays are two minutes in length each so a good place to start.

Part 3

Write a short screenplay (2 pages only) for a short sequence which can be filmed in school and which will include the following:

  • match on action editing
  • 180 degree rule
This screenplay must involve at least 2 people. The action in the sequence must be continuous and go from one location to another via a door. And also involve and exchange of dialogue/looks/action between two people.

You must therefore plan how you will use match-on action editing and 180 degree rule to achieve this.

Scripts must be published to the blog using SCRIBD.

Lesson 3 - HW requirements

Welcome to new students.

Ms Downton will upload today's lesson here soon so that you have it available for revision and reflection. It sounded like a lively and engaged lesson.

Some of you are already working hard and have demonstrated this through your completion of HW. However, this is not universal.
Can I remind those of you to whom this applies you that you MUST have all homework completed and on your blog by Thursday. There are still several of you without Three Colours essays posted. And many who have yet to complete or add to their Children of Men analysis and two other selected opening sequences. We will be using this HW in class and failure to complete will therefore hinder your progress.

The expectation for Media AS is a minimum of 4 hours HW a week of which the writing is just one element. The rest of the time should be used in developing your independent research skills.

Lesson 2 - Media Languages

Below are the links to the clips you need to view. I recommend you view all of them and in your analyses answer the same question in detail for two ONLY.

How does the director engage the audience in the narrative and characters of the film? Think about what techniques they use and apply Media Languages.

City of God

Fish Tank

Amelie

Seven

The Godfather

Touch of Evil

LESSON 1

Use you notes to write a detailed analysis of the opening of Three Colours Blue on word and submit it as a document below by Thursday. Or post onto your blog using SCRIBD.

Watch the opening of Three Colours Blue above.
  • In pairs discuss what the story or narrative of this opening sequence is about.
  1. Which shot do you think is most powerful in the telling of the story?
  2. Which shots establish who the characters are?
  3. What is the name of the little girl?
  4. Do we see the mother?
  5. What is the passage of screen time taken during the opening 5 minutes?
  6. Is sound more powerful than picture or the other way round?
Write down your answers to these questions in your books.

HW. WRITE AN ESSAY ANALYSING THE OPENING SEQUENCE UP TO AND INCLUDING THE CAR CRASH ONLY. YOU SHOULD USE PEE WITH EXAMPLES FROM THE FILM - BOTH SHOTS AND SOUNDS. POST YOUR ESSAY ON YOUR BLOG BY THRUSDAY
